Credit where it's due: a pretty good Townscreen, especially compared to the other ones we've seen so far.
Now, can we focus on what is actually important? Like, GAMEPLAY?
- cheap Hero specializations;
- cheesy racial skills;
- cluttered magic system;
- terrible skill pizza;
- arbitrary preset Hero classes / skills;
And the list can go on.
I know it's unrealistic to expect major changes at this point, given Beta 2 and Vanilla drawing near, but can we please get some acknowledgement here?
- random abilities/spell effects! For instance, Spelltwister, Incorporeal ability, Medusa stone effect etc. etc.
no offense but incorporeal ability sucks imo. its far too annoying and powerful.
>>can we please get some acknowledgement here?
No, if we give them less % :) Say, 25%. It's really fun.
Cleg: It's like you don't like the H3 Medusa effect, which works alike.
People loved it for a reason. Something must annoy to enjoy. It all depends on the effect you get. That's when the party starts :)
Another Cleg tries to be sarcastic :D
Heroes of Templates and Copypastes.
Really, this stuff is just icing on a cookie cutter game. I'd say the magic system is stripped down and basic, just like the lack of unit - even spellcaster - abilities. The screen is nice, sure, but nothing impressive compared to what's come before it.
How is incorporeal op? I mean it made the ghosts interesting in H5 and if you know how to handle it, it wasn't that hard to deal with it. I never had problems with it. I mean if you missed 2 times, you had 2 times you can hit it, after that it is just a matter of attention on the ghosts.
Now if you are talking about the minotaurs in H4 with 50% chance of blocking. That was annoying and absolutely op. But still if you know how to handle it, it wasn't that hard to deal with.
@Rob: Cleg was trying to be sarcastic. That's all :)
Also if you look at something op, then look at the ghosts in H2. If you killed the enemy units with those ghosts then they will add to the ghosts, wich could be devastating in end game.
I think this will never been read by anyone from Ubi and Limbic. They are using the silent treatment and ignoring tactic for a while now. They think this is the best way to deal with all complains. But in my opinion it just makes things worse.
Maybe, but i am serious :O
silent is the sound of defeat.
You know, I'm sorta growing tired of asking but I'll say it one more time: "Why do they not listen?" Why do they ignore all these upvoted comments we share at the council? They blow them off as if all these comments and upvote about those issues do not exist.
You know what that tells me? Bad devs. Just bad. They aren't experienced enough and they don't know what they're doing. Plus they're porbably under the pressure of Ubi itself.
I like this townscreen but it really does NOT solve the problem of terrible heroes specializations.
and tons of reused models
Hey Ubilimbic! Have you seen this poll?
86% of us don't like your current "specializations", so please change them.
Thank you :)
~137 votes? It is not enough.
Maybe not, but a 86% is quite representative and most of the people here are experienced Heroes players that know what we are talking about.
I voted to change them as well. Keep posting this one it's the first I've seen it.
137 clearly represents the whole Heroes playerbase.
How much would be needed for it to be "representative"? You realise that election results are estimated on sample 1000 people and it quite accurately estimates outcome how millions of people would vote? 148 (right now) is quite a lot I would say. Anyway we made quite lot of such polls and all of them got ignored. Ubi just dont care, it never did.
Those 14% left are Ubi employees, I guess. :P
In the past, I've heard a lot of people comment that the townscreen designs made it difficult to identify individual buildings and their purpose. I heartily disagree with Dungeon in this regard, as I managed to accurately identify a large number of buildings before this breakdown.
Can you feel the irony? A town stuffed in a cave is better arranged than a town on the surface which has unlimited space to grow and build but the ones on the surface are hardly well put.. and agglomerated such as sylvan one.
What about the spider town - have you fixed the worst townscreen I have ever seen?
Let me answer for them: nope.
I hope no.
Develepers: We didn't fix it, we just improved it. Now the town is buildt on a giant mechanical spider, and where the face of the spider would be we added the mask of a faceless. Your gona love it... Oh, my bad. we decided to just copyed heroes 6 townscreen. Have(buy)a(this)nice(crappy)day(game). (What ubisoft really think)
I like the extended spy-powers. Instead of just gathering information, you can now sabotage and plunder as well. Fits the Dungeon faction well, imo :). Definately a less purple TS than in H6, and more focus on other colors as well. "Frozen Statuary" is probably a reference to the Medusa's naga heritage, although something like a Chapel of Stilled Voices (like in H3) would sound better...or a Statuary Garden for that matter.
I just realized the problem with some of the townscreens. The designs are neat, the artwork is good, but they don't have the feeling of depth which e.g. Heroes 3 had, and I think I found out why: Every building is located at the exact same layer of depth! There are no buildings in front, none in the back, they all have the same distance from the observer, and that is horrible, because it makes the townscreens look awkwardly flat and plain. Please, if you do only 2D townscreens, make them good!
I think you have a good point, although in my opinion it is not that bad in the case of this particular townscreen.
Dang, well spotted! I would never have picked that out...very much non artistic over here :P
Hm, now that I look into this... Well spotted, sir: there should be some sense of depth, some buildings are closer than others (eg usually Town Portal is one of the closest) but their scaling doesn't account for viewers position, they're only scaled to themselves. And this truly flattens the image...
And there is another thing, I believe: props placing. Eg most (if not all) Town Halls in H7 TSs is basically in the exact same position, same goes for Town Portals I think. If one would sweep through townscreens for other key buildings locations (eg Magic Guild) more similarities could be found. I wonder what's the reason - simplification, not to confuse the players?
Give Us new black dragon, the one from H6 is not true black dragon
Placement of buildings is nonsensical as always, but the picture is quite nice for a change.
Has that magical underground city vibe, especially the left half, could tone down the purple on the right though
They like it random for a change :D
Hehehe random buildings, random skill selection for classes, random creature abilities - yes
Random skill system - nope xD
They like to give random abilities/spells that lack random effects, which would be very nice, in fact.
B-but random effects would mean you'd have to deal with a /possibility/ of them triggering or not :o
That's crazy, what would be next then? Expecting players to think and plan their actions? In a strategy game? I.. I can't imagine such a thing, makes my head hurt :(
H5 was much about, wasn't it? Including some specializations?
This is something I really liked in H5.
Not only specializations, but also some creature abilities. So here, you follow the Limbic reasoning.
We need to make a poll about it, don't we?
H5 was such a heresy it took Ubi 10 years to fix and retcon all of it's foul concepts and mistakes, please don't mention this atrocity in /my thread/
Hail Spider Messiah and his vision \o/
I thought you like H5 specializations? But let's take H3. Medusa had a random effect ability?
So are you against incorporeal ability so many people raged about? Suprising to me :O
Hehehe, alright that went too far , I'll stop right here xD
I was joking, Meren. I though the spider messiah bit would make it obvious xD
Oh, no indication of joking :) You fooled me :P
I thought a spider has bitten you :P
It always happens to me, I'm so sarcastic people actually think I'm really /that/ stupid xD
Your :( pain misled me a bit :P I'm too sensitive :XD
Well, now you know, if I'm defending ashan or Erwin's 'vision' there's 90% chance I'm joking, 5% that I'm drunk (and still not serious) and 5% that I really went insane as my title implies xD
It's a spider effect that blurred my vision - like a poison on the screen :D
Spiders' special ability :D
elves of might and magic: religion wars.
every faction s religious to the very core, and we have elves in every corner. back in old days, we used to have town with different philosophies and atmosphere with mixed races.
ubisoft is basically duplicating haven to erase other factions. 1 dominant race and dominant religious lifestyle.
i wish i was at charge with this game... i seriously think i can do much better game then you do.
"i wish i was at charge with this game... i seriously think i can do much better game then you do."
As does everyone else around here, and exactly that is why it's such a mess.
but when they miss things that easy, i cant help myself to think this way..
i mean do they really need to hear fans to rethink about rollercoster sylvan etc etc? those are really simple thinks to comprehend.. if they are really that much stupid then how can they design more complicate things like gameplay mechanics?... oh wait they allready fail at those.
just how in the world headquarters of ubisoft doesnt realise that erwan and his team SUCKS so hard? this is third game they design!
"every faction s religious to the very core"
What about Academy? They don't worship the Dragons as gods ;).
Another military outpost, this time it happens to be underground. I can't see a single house or anything that resembles one, where do the (annoying) dark elves live?
Meh, I'd say it is the least awful TS, I'll give you that.
best towncreen ll give you that, now that you ve learned how to do it, redo the previous ones.
I must admit I love Haven town Screen especialy on the very beginning. So peaceful view.
Best townscreen so far <3
In my opinion, this is the best looking townscreen for MMH7 so far. And I am not saying that only because Dungeon is one of my favourite factions, but also because it looks like an actual town and it is not something like the ugly pyramid with spider legs that the Necropolis got (yes I am still angry because of that). This actually looks great, and even though I would more appreciate a 3D townscreen, I think that the devs made good work with this townscreen (and the entire Dungeon faction).
However, for an even better "towny" feel, I would add at least a few civilian buildings.
Yeah, we all remember these hideous spider legs, believe me...
Four out of eight Dungeon units have exact same model as HVI ones. We were deceived by developers during line-up voting. Stop this lazy practice immediately! In one article you show us how easy is to recolor Heroes VII models and then you give us four recolored units. Shame on you Ubilimbic for treating your fans like this. Change Medusa model now!
True, it does looks pretty similar to the townscreen from H6 (i still have the wallpaper) in many ways. Yet i'm not complaining about that actually because i quite like the way it looks even when they didn't change much about it to begin with. As long as the game plays fluently, with little to no bugs and no crashing at launch, i'll be as happy as can be.. Let's hope Ubi opens up to modders (would be nice seeing more unofficial maps, or overhauls ect)?
