Blademage! So I was right that we knew one of the class name way ahead when you mentioned it in another article :) And I am loving Blademages the most so far. Might and Magic combined, that is what I am looking for in Heroes games!
Sheriff - The word comes from Arabic sharif (Arabic: شريف) meaning "noble", from sharafa meaning "to be highborn". So... If you rename the last to "Sherif" or "Sharif" it would be much more better IMHO.
yep, Sharif would be great imo!
I like your explanation, but I think there is wrong logical blunder in it.
I can't recall a culture were nobles were the protectors and/or were dealing with the normal folks themselves.
They usually had some doing it for them.
Nobles were the protectors in Japanese culture and in Egypt. So it ain't that far'fetched. Also, we don;t know how the Academy political and social structure truly functions
Lol. It's ridiculous how majority laught of sheriff while doesn't know real meaning ^.^
Ofc, that "mistake" with sherif instead sharif prbly caused this misunderstanding.
Btw, in through feodalistic period, nobles were protectors. Peasants served for them, and nobles guaranted security. Closest example medieval Europe.
Well, this is fantasy, after all... and in times of war, you can't be too picky whom you send to the battle.
"The word has no etymological connection with the English term sheriff, which comes from the Old English word scīrgerefa, meaning "shire-reeve", the local reeve (enforcement agent) of the king in the shire (county)."
Kimarous is right about the etimology of Sheriff not having to do with Sharif (which is maybe too much islamic lore, if you check it (Sharifes are descendants of Mahomet).
However, it is not difficult to think the similarity betwen both words its something they have indeed considered.
I would sugest tho completly change Sheriff for something else. It seems most people don't like it. Sha'ir would be better, or Caliph, Vizier, Sultan, etc...
Sheriff in English and Sherif (or Sharif) in Arabic are two different words with two separate linguistic backgrounds. Sheriff does not come from Sherif.
They used Sheriff and its meaning (law officer) while the word has no connection whatsoever to the Academy faction. Sheriff sounds wild west, and is just a ridiculous choice. Don't take it as personal offense devs, it is what it is...
I second the idea of replacing the Sheriff...
I would suggest Dervish/Darvesh, even though there's some religious connotation.
Could be please have more avatars?
And an edit button :3
Custom avatars for when you've reached a certain level. Your own image, like on HC.
I don't know about custom, I like that we all have heroes avatars. But greater variety would be nice, why can't all H6 avatars be available? :<
I want a new one, but there're none sexy enough :D
More options would be nice. Freely input and upload might not be that nice: without moderators, one cannot believe that, sooner or later, some nudity or offensive content would be around. We cannot afford seeing bad things here. We already have that town screen.
many twins forum (
Custom ones, I would prefer.
And yes it is very hard to pick some avatar, because decent looking avatars are taken by many ppl, and it is confusing.
We need more avatars.
Give us more avatars!!
I just wanted to start looking to the right, instead of left. There's nothing to read on the left.
About avatars, I think what could be great would be to be able to choose every hero from every game, from homm1 to homm6 included.
I support the motion.
I can even help uploading them, I am sure others would too. ;)
Also units. I want troglodyte, since dungeon voting results.
Oh yeah, but then lots of more work. But seriously, I am willing to give a hand for this.
Wow, that would be so lovely :D
Best idea i'we seen this day! YES! And i don't think it would take too much effort to do that (espechially if we fans help ;) )
Well, is ingrate task and would take time, especially if you want to add every unit as well, is why I offer to help.
Everyone will yell at Ubisoft if they ask their fans to do their boring tasks...
That would be a good start, for sure :). Add boss creatures to it as well, along with the Dragon Gods.
And when someone has reached a specific level, he/she is able to upload a custom avatar, like his/her own picture for instance.
Certain avatars for certain levels, and the ability to choose only one dragon god and no others.
I think it's great how the criticism of the name "Sheriff" has been polite and accompanied with alternative suggestions. There are a few that could definitely learn from everyone else.
Maybe is because a class name is not that big a deal lol
Always there, ready to lecture people Khan aren't ya?
You actually don't have any peacekeeping attitude at all, are you capable of commenting without criticizing other shadow council members? I highly doubt it.
Obviously you took my post as an attack on you. If you feel that the post was targeting you, then maybe you feel there's truth behind it.
I think your post was targeted to anyone who looses it when the blog reveals atrocities such as spiderpolis, ie lol
See the negative influence you have? We're already starting a fight lol
Actually his post targets anybody who goes into a senseless rage when something just doesn't go their way...
Rage is never senseless, as long as you can explain it.
And I thought we were making things up medic. :(
Galaadle, you know nothing about rage. All you did was basicly crying like a little child. And if anbody is starting a fight here then it is you...
Rage is the step which comes right after despair. And now you're getting personal, at least Khan didn't directly target anybody before I replied.
Rage is a weapon of great use, if it is used wisely. All I can say is that you didn't...
I'll leave you with that as I'm not in the mood to a fight...
Rage is not a weapon, it's an emotion.
Not litterally, figuratively!
I understood what you meant, but I replied.
mediczero, here is one more explanation of rage:
Rage is an emotional feeling of intense, violent, or growing anger. It is associated with the fight response to an event that impacts negatively on the person.
A person in a state of rage may lose much of his/her capacity for rational thought, and may act, usually violently, on his/her impulses to the point that the person may attack everything around until the source of his/her rage would be destroyed.
Could we please not get into a big debate about the nature of rage when the original post was just thanking people for using polite constructive criticism?
@Kimarous: The way I see it, the main post was more into bashing people who expressed their frustration in a rather savage way than anything else. The last sentence betrays OP.
Regardless, I think it is best that this particular line of discussion come to an end, if mainly because it's getting long and making people have to stop ever so slightly more downward to see the next post, thus invoking niggling bits of frustration that lead to rage. :P
I am all for being polite and civilized, but as I've already explained, Ubisoft only cares if they feel like their interest is in danger.
And when someone is being deliberately provocative as Khan, what do you expect?
But, this conversation, *popcorn*.
It was meant as a sincere compliment to the community. They have done incredibly well in their criticism. The fact that you took offence to it speaks more about you than anything else.
"There are a few that could definitely learn from everyone else. ".
Don't be such an hypocrite Khan.
You like to bash on people, or I challenge you to convince me otherwise.
And I suspect some people upvote you only to piss me off lol
I don't care.
Anyway, I think it is justified to bash on a milking company, but not to do so on other community members.
Please stop accusing hypocrisy where there is none and making up issues where there are none. If there is any conflict here, it is only the ones you perpetrate. Enough.
lol Kimarous by the time you could have noticed a lot of Khan's comment is about bashing other members. I bash Ubisoft, and I am not ashamed of it, Ubisoft has extremely bad reputation, and is not for nothing.
What the heck does you bashing on Ubisoft have to do with Khan allegedly bashing on you? On that note, onus of proof is on you for showing what amounts to bashing, not him proving you wrong. Presumption of innocence and all that.
Also, look at all this kerfuffle you've caused. This is EXACTLY what he was praising people for avoiding. That's not him bashing you - that's YOU being the antithesis to the people he's praising!
@Kimarous: I believe we have a misunderstanding.
To keep it short. Ubisoft SHOULD be bashed for their silly decisions. And members defending Ubisoft, I find plain silly, is either complete ignorance or stupidity, imo.
And there is no such thing as "polite bashing" outside from fairy tales.
And once again, you completely miss the point and make it all about unrelated issues. This was never even about "defending Ubisoft," but about the use of constructive criticism over non-constructive "bashing," which YOU advocate... and since we're playing the "I find" card, I consider childish, self-absorbed, and pathetic.
@Kimarous: What you qualify as "unrelated issues" to me is core of the problem.
really stahp :P
I do not see Khan comment as offensive- it reffered to recent Dev's post where the tension exloded. I agree that dicussions and criticism heere is class for its own and provided with good arguments ;)
@GalaadleHaut: Thus is the vicious cycle. I see your issues as minor or unrelated, you see them as a core problem, you respond in a way that I view as disproportionate, I react, you lol, I react more, we get into a back and forth, and here we are.
That's why we don't get along. It's not that I want to dislike you, but we see issues so wildly from each other that clashes are inevitable, thus creating animosity. :(
-- http://static.comicvine.com/uploads/original/1/11962/3898421-5462234488-187.g.gif --
@Kimarous: And once again, I don't want to point any fingers, but both clashes with you and medic all came from Khan's post.
I don't want to dislike you either Kimarous, fundamentally I want to dislike no one, but when I feel attacked, I react, don't you find it a rational behavior?
As... riveting as this discussion has been, I'm cutting things off to go to bed, and I don't expect to continue after I awaken. Let's just hope the future brings material and discussions we see eye to eye on. :)
here is some reasons for everyone to understand why current atmospher of council changed a bit:
1-big topics breed big fights. class name isnt a big one, its doesnt hurt or it doesnt make too happy.
2-negative or positive, nearly all feedback is beign ignored for months, so no real reason to offer new ones.
3-real trolls still do exist, maybe even theres more now, due to lack of proper moderation. 4-too much offtopic posts and flaming in responds.
5-quits from some users like me.
i dont like this kind of thrash talk from my back. we bringed passion to ths site, we tried to contribute. at least remember the reason why i quit. show some respect.
I'd like to see a skillwheel, just for one class :) Just to see the skills and how it'll work now
I think that EVERYONE wants to see how anything in this game works game play wise, when it comes to skill system. They just toss us artworks, as if feeding to breed.
Breed?..... lol ;DDD
Anyway, after what they experienced lately I can hardly believe the devs would want us to breed;P
Well they are preparing for a video, so maybe we see a lot in there.
While I'd love to see it too. I underestand it may not be shown until really mature. Often some mechanics cause too much hype, and then have to be cutted out in balancing because they do not work properly, which is frustrating.
Also, we have the bad experience of blood-tears in Heroes VI (limited to main hero and not really the determining feature that was advertised). I prefer not to illusion myself with these kind of features.
Since the Sheriff's work is to keep the law of magic from being broken (that law which restrict certain types of magic like necromancy), he/she could be called "Judge". And then you could put a hero called Dredd who goes around screaming "I am the law (of magic)!!!". :P
This is astounding! "I am the law (of magic)!!!" made my day!
Anyway I upvote the idea about judges.
She's the Sheriff of Al-Safir
He's a cabir piloting a golem
Together, they fight crime !
Add Anthrax as soundtrack :P
@Assaldir *magic crime* ;)
@rodaff I prefer Slayer :P
@Tito_Reni Slayer is great but this is a metal anthem:
@rodaff OH, YEAH!! :D
Well, if we are going to recommend songs, I recommend to all of you the band Triptykon:
Sheriff???? What is that , Ashan or the Wild West? :D
Apart from the name, the rest is good (names included).
Duel of Sheriffs: Wild Wild Ashan
Well, sheriff isn't originally from wild west. Besides, wild west is much better setting than Ashan!
Heroes of whiskey and revolver.
C'era una volta il Ashan
Wild Wild Ashan makes sense, the Necropolis TS is the spider from the movie :P
Harley Davidson and the Sheriff Man
It's unfair that Academy looks THIS awesome in each aspect and Necromancers are just a bunch of ugly spiders (⌣́_⌣̀) (won't be surprised if there'll be spider-hero (lol sounds spidermanish))
Or a spider mount ^.^
Though from their perspective, they want to attract new MM fans rather than old.
Chiasa, LOL that'd be a pike of desperation for the Undead xD
or maybe (just maybe) the mount will be an elf with big boobiesofts!
I have enough spider mounts with the inquisitor so NO thanks.
One has to compensate for the other, no?
Do you say it for the factions(a bad one gets compensated by a good one)?
I guess so. If Necropolis remains the way it is, and people aren't going to like it, at least we have Academy to make us puke rainbows xD.
I put faith in the devs to work on the Necro creature models, and perhaps the heroes will be a light at the end of the pitch-black tunnel that is Necro Development.
Why are you so pessimistic? I personally like the spiders (...o.K... the town is a little bit too much, but that is my personally taste...)...; they guaranteed us to imporve two unities. How ever: For me it is not bad, to see some creatures from Heroes VI back. I liked them... Do not be disappointed, have patience!!!
It is the design and the idea of having spiders (who are alive creatures) in City of Dead.
Er, correction, City of the Spider Cult.
Well, overall I don't mind the current Necro looks, yet I have come to agree that Vamps and Liches might get some reworking. The town looks more like a fortress than a town, but I get the even greater spider theme, because the Cult is at its strongest in H7. If the models are reworked, everyone's prolly going to be happier ;). Necro is good for me, but it can still be better.
Just a question: Has anyone told, that the spiders are alive? (I really want to know...)
You mean instead of them being undead spiders?
...i think the spiders are dead; i can't imagine, that they are alive...
IA with the @Sempai_Mur, Academy looks great but Necropolis it'a a big disappointment
You are totally right!
Sheriff lol sometimes I wonder what you guys smoking :D
Looks good otherwise ;)
that is true he looks good but something is missing, oh i know - the star :D
Needless to say, the "Sheriff" name needs to be changed to something more appropriate.
Otherwise a good post!
About Sheriff name, it was revealed long ago in Duel of Champions:
"Akane left the Dark Elves to travel to the Seven Cities, and was received after a long journey and longer wait by the Sheriff Asalah, who was moved by her plight."
Althrough I would prefer "Emir" instead.
Thanks for the info.
Emir sounds better I agree.
Sharif is an arabic tittle. So I bet it's kinda misconfusion.
ButSzafir (Shafir) means "sapphire". :P
Maybe they can't really use the word Shariff. Maybe it has a licence somewhere. That could explain a lot.
@ Chiasa We will continue to ask avatars !
Give us more avatars!!
An Yuki-Onna avatar would be nice...
And young emperor ^^
homm 3 archangel- cause nth is as good as Hercules with giant flamboyant sword and wings that rise just from this a**! :D
as Galaad said, you have all the characters! \ I want to Deidra and Biara
Gemini came to the forum (( Sandro and a bunch of elves green ))
They should have units as avatars too! I want to be a dragon! Rawwrr!
All the bosses, all the dragons . Yes !
Well, for starters, I'd prefer homm portraits rather than DoC ones.^^
I vote for Azkaal. I like me some Pit Lords. :3
Blademage and Alchemist are okay. You can do better than Sheriff, it's too british for this faction. How about Sharif, Faqih, Hakim, Qadi, Sheikh, Emir, Pasha, Baig, or any other arabic, turkic, persian title?
Since there are no news, we should focus in the important issues like the lack of "BLAH" in vampires :P
Vampires must say "blah" when they are attacking or at the very least when they are hit by the enemy, "blah" must return!
Who's with me?
Another a-blah-tive discussion. \o/
And we need better liches, current ones look like this guy:
Worse, they have a mummified penis
What a thing to worry about.
The blah issue was mostly a silly way to pass the time but also is an easy ad cheap way to "improve" the game retaining some characteristic features(Because I don´t think that is too apropiate to have a vampire having shakespearian monologues like in Blood Omen).
Blah was cool!
Same as many other cool effects that were in the games (mummy when being "killed" in HoMM 2, power lich attack from HoMM 2, titan and golem walking)... hoMM 2 was especally rich in those, HoMM 3 was more serious in that aspect (although even here appeared some great sounds!)
The mummy when killed, the vampire while flying to the enemy, the sound of the paladins armor... So many great soun effects, so many memories.
Blah was tremendous.
In H4, though... no blahs and we had ghosts laughing when being hit "Hihihihehe-heaaah". Cerberi dying, like a "Grooowhoaah". The phlegm like sound of water elementals and venom spawns walking.
imo nth was better and more mighty (and had better sund effect) than luck animation! This freakin' rainbow rocked! It must reapper!
That rainbow, when we were the ones being attacked, were ridiculously despairing. It took so long to finish its animation that we had a complete argument inside our heads regarding that single movement. Things like "OH, NO, GOD DAMN YOU! BASTARD!" or "TAKE THAT, PEASANTS FROM HELL, NOW DIE, EACH ONE OF YOU!!" would issue serenely in our minds.
AH! Ghost sounds were AWESOME. That way to fly, that yelp when she was attacked. Boo'hoo, scary. Back then, undead looked like undead.
I have to say, I never like the Blah sound effect. I Iiked others though, just not that one.
So there'll be 6 different classes of heroes in H7. Good! That brings a most important topic:
******** TAVERN SYSTEM ********
Because these 6 classes make hard to keep the H1,2,3&5 tavern system. Because taverns in H4 were bad and digusting in H6.
1/ How will it works ?
2/ How many heroes choice per day/week will there be ?
3/ Is the Heroes class gonna be random ? Guess (hope) it will, as we have random skills
4/ Will Heroes choice be different for every tavern ? hope yes
good topic- I think that we will be available to choose heroes only from the faction's town.. or all
The question is- how many hereos there will be in te game? Even 2 for eaach class will be massive. And what with their specialities?
Here’s my suggestion: Something totally new ! :)
Tavern and Thieves Guild are 3 now levels’ building. Upgrading one prevent you from upgrading the other one. Each level offers tactical options. It’s up to you!
L1: Recruiting 2 heroes
L2: Recruiting 3 heroes + Head hunting: you choose between might or magic – if might, tavern offers 2 might heroes vs 1 magic one + Good beer: +1 for morale and during siege
L3: L2 + 7-league boots: +20% movement points the 1st day, 10% the 2nd day + Black market: 100% more chance for defeated heroes to come to your tavern (with their artefacts)
L1: Basic intelligence (number of city and heroes per player, best hero with main characteristic per player)
L2: L1+ Economic intelligence (resources and revenues – ranking) + Military intelligence (armies and production – ranking)
L3: L2+ Spy network + Strategic map
Spy network: you get to send 1 spy / week to an opponent city or hero. He’ll give all its information. Takes time: from 1 day to 1 week according to distance. Comes at a price according to distance, increasing for every new spy.
Strategic map: you get to track one hero’s movement during 3 days. Renewable 3 days after using it. Comes at a price.
This topic is somehow essential for the gameplay. And we don't have information about it so far.
So here's my suggestion, you guys let me know what you think about that !
Number of classes means versatility and utility.... but that also means that there would rather no be classes combos or mix of classes/ higher classes a it was in HoMM 4 (it was quite cool, some were a bit op and better and other.... less op and better ;)
For those who have not played hoMM 4 a link that shows what is behind this idea
Ye, it was something I liked about H4.
Just played it yesterday and had myself a general! :D
When one knows how the development of IV went, it is admirable all the good stuff which came from this game. Too bad for the bad decisions who had too great of an impact on it.
I get the impression that Ubisoft would not institute such a system for the same reason they dropped the Tears/Blood system: that it was too much effort for too small a reward. Also, with all the calls players make for balance these days, I don't think mentioning how "OP" the system could be would endear the notion to them.
Not that I'm personally opposing the system. I love OP cross-classing as much as the next person. I'm just saying why I don't think they'd go with it.
For once I will agree with Kimarous.
Ubilimb has already most things planned, and is very unlikely they will make any change at this state.
Also, I don't get why so many people call for balance, when the most enjoyable HoMM games had a broken one.
But still, is always nice to give relevant suggestions.
I would be satisfied even with small things (nice with little impact- like 1% more damage by melee or 1 mana lower casting etc.).
Looking at it it is cutious why beast lord is strictly superior to beastmaster (probably cause combat>>>nobility) and it shows that sth is not even.... Offtopic, I always liked the most archmage, demonologist (most op in the whole game, summoning demons was itself op...) and enchanter
imbalance is cool here the trades and pros/ cons are quite fair.
Example is Stronghold is HoMM 3- rushy, easy access to behemoth... but itself no higher spells, cyclop dwelling costs like 7 level units, army is not that strong n late game.... THat is quite fair and comparable to other armies ;)
Broken is sth when there are no flaws or are illusoric - Conflux in hoMM 3 with 4 phoenixes or generally HoMM 2 factions (knight is unconvincing compared to warlock- with peasant it is not rushy)
I also loved the class system in HoMM 4. It's a little sad that it wouldn't be included in M&MH 7. Btw, I always found the imbalance in HoMM 2 to be a great part of that game.
t was somewhat great cause provided a lot of fun and tension.... at the same time irritating.
I usually played a lot knight (my favourite class) and even with good start on higher level of difficulty often got rekt cause met random warlock dude (even not main army and without ghigl level- just had, as all warlocks, a lot of magic power) that slaughtered my almost entire army (especially aiming in archers and crusaders) with lightning or those cold rings....
