These Town Screens are HORRIBLE. Why are they going with a cartoony looks? And why the F havent they made us vote "cartoon" or "realistic" town screens. Heroes 6 has far better town screens so far.

Honestly. Wtf are these devs doing? In truth, they say they want to "go back to the roots of heroes 3". BUT the portraits are cartoony, NOT like heroes 3 porrtraits (check my avatar). And the town screens are FAAAAAR worse than heroes 3 and heroes 6. What are they doing? STOP with the cartoon graphics. These graphics are not and have NEVER been for heroes series.

Can't believe that Heroes Online and Duel of Champions have better art direction than the flagship title of the series. Even Heroes 6 had better towns, more diverse and original, and those where rushed like hell. Everything up until now was ok, this is the thing that breaks the deal for me. Town screens not important, yeah keep dreaming Ubisoft...

I was quite hyped for town screens after votes, and they even pointed that -town screens are important feature- their own words. I expected something different

I guess the cartoon look is due to the lower budget than H5. Blame freaking UBIsoft. Well, maybe value of the money is changed in 9 years, but relatively speaking. I am sure that that we dont get 3D screens and this is pretty close the look of the final screen. "work in progress".. i really hope so. Civil houses!

If the art style wont change, i dont buy this game. It`s been 15 years since H3 and it`s screens beat this in every possible way. Unbelievable, if you ask me.

FOR BETTER TOWN SCREEN! #fbtws

Why Town Screen so ugly? - Should Heroes 7 be like browser's game? - I think - NO!

If devs not want develop Town screens in 3D - than perheaps u will paint more better than retard schoolboy?

NOT use style like Heroes 6 - that is ugly and not presentable. Use Heroes 3 styly than!

Come to think of it, the Thundercloud Coliseum is not really a coliseum as I'd expect. The HoMM 5 version has that unmistakable amphitheatrical shape, and has more right to be called Coliseum than the, shall we say, Titan Temple we've got here. It's cool, for sure, but for me it lacks the Coliseum-look.

I agree with you guys about the townscreens could be better and more realistic too, That ok.
though there is manner to let them know, insults them do not gonna change things, insults doesn't equals more chances to get what you want.
No surprising developpers nowadays saw gamers more and more exigent which is ok right, but more and more disrecpectful ? It rather demotivate yes...
Sure they are enought intelligent to take some recoil, but saying this in a respectful way never killed anyone.

At some point it is simply not enough to say something is just bad. It is okay to express outrage at a product by calling it a piece of crap or something like that, so long as there are no personal insults to the devs or anything, which AFAIK there aren't.

17
MightyKain
December 17, 2014 00:45:49

the language is rich if people trully want to explain what's bad there is plenty to do.
It's too easy to being rude behind a computer with insulting people works (i've don't read all in this topic but i wanted to summarize about what i saw on other topics too about some pointed words towards Ubisoft precisely.)

If i'm in a skin of a developper, i will not take extra intention for dudes insulting my works.
i will take same consideration good or rude arguments (with limit ofcourse).

MightyKain
December 17, 2014 00:50:19

There is no advantage to being disrepectful.
So why being disrepectful if talking with respect will be nicer without preventing details, even if you don't like the works here.

Having actual houses and other buildings aside from these buildings we pick and choose would make the cities feel much more natural and believable. Someone has mentioned it... thought it was a really good idea... I think it was like this in H5. A different art-stye wouldn't hurt either and 3D would make it perfect. ^_^

there should be 3d townscreens.. moreover I do not like the way the townscreens lost there sence of belonging over time by reducing creature buildings to mere statues instead of connecting them to the back story of the unit

@mediczero I don't know if older games are better, since I haven't played this one. But form the look of this town screen, in my opinion other towns screen where better. They where more in tone with the whole game for once. As blueraven have pointed out on previous posts, H7 have a more serious look, and this concept town don't fit. I like the art, but I think they could improve the final version of the towns screen, to match the rest of the game they have revealed so far.

I feel like the graphic designers are just doing their job for the money. Where is the PASSION? Let me share some ways to improve the townscreens.

Heroes 3 had the best townscreens because the screens looked like REAL towns. Take a look at the Tower townscreen in HOMM3. The Mage Guild, Library, Mage/Archmage Barracks, and Wall of Knowledge were all built into ONE structure. The Tavern, Marketplace, Artifact Merchants, and Blacksmith were together in a pseudo village with a brick theme.

7
spazzerrune
December 29, 2014 18:40:50

(Cont.)
If you could bundle some of the buildings together in different themes in different parts of the screen, you could save time by designing less individual buildings like what you did with this preliminary townscreen above for Academy. This will also save space in the screen for CIVILIAN buildings that appear as you upgrade your capitol. On top of that, you could make civilian buildings appear when you build things like the University of Magic or the Thieves' Guild.

7
spazzerrune
December 29, 2014 18:46:06

(Cont.)

One last thing, take a look at your silver parapet. You could easily help make your town look more put together by incorporating the silver parapet into the small arches right below it. Instead of a huge unrealistic singular parapet with ONE gargoyle, you could use 8 - 10 smaller gargoyles shrinking that same figure that you've already designed and then lining these gargoyles above the arches to make it look like a parapet, and not a plain boring statue.

Articun Der Wanderer

I agree to all you pointed out. If possible buildings with the same function would unite into a bigger building it would make the whole town screen look more concrete.
I mean, the magic university, magic schools, Arcane Vortex and Pinnacle of Wishes could be made into one major building with different corridors it would make more sense.
The same goes for the crafters, pyramid crafter, golem workshop, cabir forge etc.

5
SLOslayer
January 04, 2015 07:48:47

I couldn't agree more. It looks like just a collection of unit producing buildings and that's it. It doesn't feel like an inhabitable city. Having civilian housing get added on as you developed your city in Homm3 really added a lot, and made the whole cityscape and really the whole game more believable and more immersive. I know its a work in progress, but this city is too utilitarian. Every building is separate, with single purpose. It just doesn't look lived in, alive.

When I saw it first, I found it beautiful but:

- The graphics aren't detailled enough and look too cartoonish ! Give us something more realistic and more mature !
- Looks like an addition of building rather than a city.
- Only 4 magic level ? For a magic faction ? Seriously ?!

The following link is a movie picture but here's an example of what I mean by a city, with details, and more mature:

Otherwise there's potential. Go on!!!

I agree, it's a bit too cartoonish.

They should add more blue, get rid of that yellow, orange colors, and possibly add some fog, clouds, mist overlay, basically something that would make it more mysterious.

To ubi devs:
You chose 2D townscreens. I have nothing against them, especially when it makes the job easier for you:
- easier to add details
- easier to create a more realistic and mature atmosphere (without killing the magical spirit of course)...

I don't want something "rather cool". I want townscreen which makes me waste time looking at it...

Please consider townscreens as an essential element for the game to be great, and for all of us.
And don't forget the fifht level !!!

Now we're in heroes 7, and the screen looks the same as in Heroes 6 - that is, horrible. Don't do the same mistake that you did with Heroes 6 (where you simply cut off town screens at the beginning and had to paint them REALLY FAST). Work on them now.

And why the hell is the Titan's dwelling smaller than the Cabir's?!! First you give him one just one ability and now you make him live in a matchbox? Come one have some respect for One of the most iconic creatures will you?
